This specimen was lot 1337 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 3,200 CHF (about US$4,229 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"INDIEN Princely States, Awadh, Muhammad Ali Shah, 1253-1258 AH (1837-1842). Ashrafi 1256 AH / Year 4 (1840-1841), Lakhnau. NGC UNC Details. Kleiner Punkt auf dem Avers entfernt. (India, princely states, Awadh, Muhammad Ali Shaf, AH 1253-58, ashrafi of the year 4, Lucknow mint. Graded NGC Unc Details, Small spot removed on obverse.)"
This type is listed for years 1, 3 and 4. Wikipedia comments, "Nasser-ud-daula Mu'in ad-Din Muhammad Ali Shah (1774 – May 7, 1842), was the third King of Oudh from 7 July 1837 to 7 May 1842." His predecessor, Ghazi ud-Din Haidar, promoted himself from nawab to king with British connivance, setting aside the nominal suzerainty of the Mogul emperor. Later, a succession dispute resulted in British intervention and overlordship. Resentment of this and other acts led to the Indian Mutiny of 1857, which was centered at Awadh's capital Lucknow.
