The specimen shown is an example of a type struck in Austria, 1950-94. This date is common. Austria began minting euros in 2002, rendering this coin obsolete. The old Hapsburg eagle clasped an orb and scepter, symbols of imperial power; the republican eagle holds a hammer and sickle, symbols of the hard work needed to rebuild from the disaster of World War Two.
Recorded mintage: 14,475,000 plus proofs.
Specification: 0.9 g, aluminum, 18 mm diameter.
