Austria 1964 50 schillings

from the Stack's Bowers 2020 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70115

This specimen was lot 70115 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, February 2020), where it sold for $80. The catalog description^[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. 50 Schillings, 1964. PCGS PROOF-68 Cameo Gold Shield. Winter Olympics issue. Elite for the issue with two examples graded PR-68 Cameo by PCGS with no finer examples in the Cameo tier and no equivalent Deep Cameo certified coins." This format was used for circulating commemoratives 1959-73, then reduced to 0.640 fine silver thereafter. It didn't help; they stopped circulating.

Recorded mintage: 2,832,410 + 67,950 proofs.

Specification: 20 g, 0.900 fine silver, 34 mm diameter.
