from the Stack's Bowers 2020 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70115

This specimen was lot 70115 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, February 2020), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. 50 Schillings, 1964. PCGS PROOF-68 Cameo Gold Shield. Winter Olympics issue. Elite for the issue with two examples graded PR-68 Cameo by PCGS with no finer examples in the Cameo tier and no equivalent Deep Cameo certified coins." This format was used for circulating commemoratives 1959-73, then reduced to 0.640 fine silver thereafter. It didn't help; they stopped circulating.

Recorded mintage: 2,832,410 + 67,950 proofs.

Specification: 20 g, 0.900 fine silver, 34 mm diameter.
