Austria 1928 10 groschen rev DSLR.jpg

The Treaty of Versailles dismembered the Austro-Hungarian empire in 1919, leaving Austria truncated and impoverished. In 1925, the currency was reformed with 100 kronen (old) = 1 groschen (new) and 100 groschen = 1 schilling. This type was struck 1925 and 1928-29. Altho this is the lowest mintage date, it is worth only a dollar or two more. The Depression hit Austria hard and there was little resistance when the Nazis marched in in 1938.

Recorded mintage: 6,867,000.

Specification: 4.5 g, copper-nickel, 22 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 221.2b.
