Austria 1777-E HG ducat Fr-192
This specimen was lot 2246 in Sincona sale 94 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 4,000 CHF (about US$5,544 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RDR / ÖSTERREICH Joseph II. 1765-1790. Dukat 1777 E, Karlsburg. Mit den Initialen H-G (Münzmeister Josef Hammerschmidt. Wardein A. de Gogia). Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Kleiner Schrötlingsfehler im Avers. Das durch NGC höchstbewertete Exemplar. (Holy Roman Empire, Joseph II, 1765-90, ducat of 1777, Karlsburg mint, with the initials HG. Rare in this condition. NGC MS64, Minor flan flaw on obverse, Finest certified by NGC.)"
Altho Friedberg lists this under Hungary, we have followed the SCWC and filed it under Austria. This ducat was struck 1768-80 at multiple mints.
