Künker Auction 439, lot 2273

This specimen was lot 2273 in Künker sale 439 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €16,000 (about US$22,011 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Leopold I., 1657-1705. 2 Dukaten 1661, Wien. Geharnischtes Brustbild r. mit Lorbeerkranz, umgelegtem Mantel und der Kette des Ordens vom Goldenen Vlies//Gekrönter Doppeladler mit Kopfscheinen und zwischen den Hälsen Reichsapfel, in den Fängen Schwert und Zepter, auf der Brust mehrfeldiges, ovales Wappen, umher die Kette des Ordens vom Goldenen Vlies, unten in der Umschrift die Signatur AC (verbunden, Andreas Cetto, Münzmeister in Wien 1660-1665). GOLD. Von größter Seltenheit. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung Kommerzialrat Dr. Herbert Wenzel, Wien. Erworben 1958 von der Tiroler Münzhandlung Sigmund Werkner, Innsbruck. (Holy Roman Empire, Leopold I, 1657-1705, double ducat of 1661, Vienna mint. Obverse: laureate, armored and mantled bust with order chain; reverse: crowned double-headed eagle with haloes around the heads and an orb of state between the necks; holding a sword and scepter in its talons; bearing a multi-part oval escutcheon on its breast, encircled by the collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece; the signature AC appears in the inscription below. Extremely rare, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This issue of 1660-62 accompanied a five ducats (Fr-262).
