Austria 1636 5 ducats Fr-152
This specimen was lot 1794 in Sincona sale 38 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 5,500 CHF (about US$6,596 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Ferdinand II. 1618-1637 5 Dukaten 1636. Wien Münzmeister Matthias Fellner, Wien 1619-1637. Sehr selten. Sehr schön. Kl. Henkelspur. (Holy Roman Empire, Ferdinand II, 1618-37, five ducats of 1636, Vienna mint. Very rare. Very fine. Small mount mark.)"
This type was struck in Vienna 1626-37 and all dates are rare. Friedberg lumps all the five ducat pieces of Ferdinand II under Fr-152 despite the considerable variation in the busts of the emperor. Mintmaster Fellner worked at the St. Polten mint, not Vienna.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 17.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 17.41 g.
