This specimen was part of lot 33313 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), which sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "Australia: 13-Piece Lot of Certified Assorted Minors NGC, ...7) George VI Florin 1951 - MS63...." This type was struck at the Melbourne mint 1949-52. It represents a debasement from the 1945 florin, which was sterling silver, and eliminated "IND IMP" from the king's titles. Silver would be removed from the coinage on decimalization 1966-67. The jubilee reverse of 1951 was saved and is today much more common.
Recorded mintage: 10,068,000 plus 2,000,000 of the julibee issue (KM 47).
Specification: 11.31 g, 0.500 fine silver, 28.5 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM 48.
