Australia 1946(m) penny
This specimen was lot 6025 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $940. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. Penny, 1946-(M). PCGS MS-62 RB Secure Holder. SCARCE semi-key date. Mint orange luster at legends with toned central surfaces showing muted maroon color." The SCWC notes the 1946 as the key date; the Perth mint skipped this year. The type was issued 1938-48 from Bombay, Perth and Melbourne.
Sterling coinage was struck for several countries besides Great Britain, including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Southern Rhodesia, Fiji Islands and New Guinea. All converted to decimal coinage in the 1960's.
