This specimen was lot 13008 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $7,050. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. 1/2 Penny, 1938. NGC PROOF-63 RB. RARE. Mintage of only 250 pieces. Tied for highest graded by NGC. From the Demarete Collection." The reverse was revised in 1939 to feature the leaping kangaroo (KM 41). This product of the Melbourne mint is common up thru About Uncirculated.
Recorded mintage: 3,014,000 plus 250 proofs.
