This specimen was lot 23183 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. 1/2 Sovereign, 1915-S. Sydney Mint. NGC MS-61. A boldly struck Sovereign with bright luster and a fairly conservative grade, considering the lack of surface marks." The half sovereign was minted in a fraction of the quantity of the full sovereign but it must have been saved as it is today common. It was struck for George V 1911-18 at all three Australian mints.
Recorded mintage: 892,000, the highest mintage date.
