Sincona sale 23, lot 2078

This specimen was lot 2078 in Sincona sale 23 (Zürich, May 2015), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Augsburg, Stadt, Taler 1626. Sehr schön. (Germany, city of Augsburg, thaler of 1626, very fine.)"

This type was struck 1694 only in the name of Ferdinand II (d. 1637) and is a somewhat scarce issue for this locale. Issues from before and during the Thirty Years War appear much more often. The pine cone is the symbol of the city.
