Argentina 1977 5 pesos KM-73
This type, struck in 1977, honors naval hero William Brown. Raging inflation, a problem which still afflicts Argentina, made its circulating life brief. In 1970, 100 old pesos = 1 new peso; in 1983, 10000 pesos = 1 peso argentino; in 1985, 1000 pesos argentinos = 1 austral. Another reform would occur again in 1992. Wikipedia comments, "William Brown (also known in Spanish as Guillermo Brown or Almirante Brown) (1777-1857) was an Irish sailor, merchant, and naval commander who served in the Argentine Navy during the wars of the early 19th century. Brown...is regarded as one of Argentina's national heroes. The creator and first admiral of the country's maritime forces, he is commonly known as the 'father of the Argentine Navy'."
