This type, struck 1974-76, recalled the sun face eight reales of the early Provincias del Rio de la Plata. Wide and narrow rim varieties exist. All dates are common. Raging inflation, a problem which still afflicts Argentina, made its circulating life brief. In 1970, 100 old pesos = 1 new peso; in 1983, 10000 pesos = 1 peso argentino; in 1985, 1000 pesos argentinos = 1 austral. Another reform would occur again in 1992.

Specification: 5 g, aluminum bronze, 22 mm diameter, reeded edge.
