Argentina 1827-RA P 8 reales
This specimen was lot 30008 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Rio de la Plata. Republic 8 Reales 1827 RA-P MS61 NGC, La Rioja mint. A most appealing coin for the grade, with significant subdued luster and an almost full strike in medallic rotation. This is a much scarcer date for this popular sunface type and is truly rare in this quality." This type was struck 1826-37 and is the first reasonably available Argentine peso. The issues of 1813 and 1815 were made in Potosi when Argentine forces captured the mint there. The designs from 1826 to 1837 were minted in the province of Rioja, as Bolivia had by then declared her own independence to forestall annexation by her neighbors.
Recorded mintage: unknown but a scarce date.
Specification: 27.07 g, 0.896 fine silver.
Catalog reference: CJ-29.2, KM 20.
