Sedwick sale 12, lot 1248

The specimen shown was lot 1248 in Sedwick sale 12 (Winter Park, FL, October 2012), where it sold for $708. The catalog description[1] noted, "Argentina (Potosi mint), 1 real, 1813J. Bold and well-struck XF (nice centers), with faint golden toning all over, nice rims, scarce and desirable first date of issue." This one real is from Rio de la Plata, the region around Buenos Aires. The type is noted for 1813 and 1815 only and is scarce.

Specification: 3.38 g, 0.896 fine silver, .097 troy oz ASW; this specimen 3.4 g.
