CNG Triton XXVIII, lot 983

This specimen was lot 983 in CNG Triton XXVIII (New York, January 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN, Kingdom. Felipe III (II of Aragon) el Piadoso. 1598-1621. AR 8 Reales. Zaragoza mint. Dated 1610 CA. Crowned coat-of-arms; VIII (mark of value) to right / Coat-of-arms surmounted by cross. Toned. In NGC encapsulation 6917303-013, graded XF 45. Extremely rare. An unrecorded date for the series. Top Pop. From the Gerald F. Borrmann (Northern California Gentleman) Collection." The SCWC lists only 1611 for this rare type. The Zaragoza mint seems to have operated only intermittently and closed permanently in 1680.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.931 fine silver, this specimen 39 mm diameter, 28.10 g, 11 h axis.
