Aragon (1479-1516)-P croat
This specimen was lot 1323 in Aureo y Calicó sale 423 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 480 € (about US$622 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Ferran II (1479-1516). Perpinya. Croat. Light hairlines. Rare. MBC [very fine]." Ferdinand of Aragon married Isabella of Castile in 1475, permanently uniting Spain. Together, they conquered Granada, the last Muslim state in Spain, earning the title the Catholic Kings. They issued many coins jointly but this croat was issued by Ferdinand by right of being king of Aragon and count of Barcelona. Varieties exist in the spelling of the obverse legend.
