Anhalt 1669-IA 8 groschen
This specimen was lot 2014 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €420 (about US$595 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · ANHALT, FÜRSTENTUM Johann Georg II. von Dessau, Vic. Amad. v. Bernb., Wilh. v. Harzg., Karl Wilh. v. Zer. u. Leberecht v. Köth., 1665-1690. 8 Gute Groschen 1669, Zerbst. RR Kl. Schrötlingsfehler am Rand, sehr schön. (Germany, principality of Anhalt, joint issue of John George II of Anhalt-Dessau, Victor Amadeus of Anhalt-Bernburg, William of Anhalt-Hazrgerode, Charles William of Anhalt-Zerbst and Leberecht of Anhalt-Cothen, eight good groschen of 1669, Zerbst mint. Very rare, edge defects, very fine.)"
The semi-literate who engraved these dies got the "N's" on the obverse correct but botched them on the reverse. Eight gute groschen equaled one-third thaler or half a gulden. It is a joint issue of all the branches of Anhalt.
