Stephen Album internet sale 28, lot 917

This specimen was lot 917 in Stephen Album internet sale 28 (Santa Rosa, CA, July 2024), where it sold for $102. The catalog description[1] noted, "ANHALT-DESSAU: Leopold IV Frederick, 1817-1871, AR 1/6 thaler, 1865-A, an attractive lustrous mint state example, PCGS graded MS62." Leopold IV was duke of Anhalt-Dessau from 1817, duke of Anhalt-Köthen from 1847 and duke of Anhalt-Bernburg from 1863 until his death, thus uniting all the fragments of the duchy. This and all other German minor coinage was rendered obsolete by the coinage reform of 1871. The "A" mintmark is most likely for Berlin, the state being too small to have its own mint.

Recorded mintage: 120,000.

Specification: 5.34 g, 0.520 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-19, AKS-31.
