SB620-21001r.jpg

This specimen was lot 21001 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Las Vegas, August 2020), where it sold for $4,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "ANGUILLA. 100 Dollars, 1969. NGC PROOF-70 Ultra Cameo. Serial number "626" stamped near rim at 7 o'clock on the reverse. A popular 50+ year old large gold proof issue, struck with designs that are highly frosted and surrounding fields that are perfectly mirrored. A near-miracle in this state of preservation and not surprisingly, the single finest example of this type certified by either NGC or PCGS. Situated in the Caribbean, Anguilla is a self-governing British territory that sits east of Puerto Rico and northwest of St. Kitts. Traditionally sustained by its meager agricultural contributions, today much of its industry is focused on tourism." Just about all of the island's coinage was struck in 1969-70. The East Caribbean dollar (US$1 = EC$2.70) is used for ordinary transactions.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 49.37 g, 0.900 fine gold, 1.4286 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-1; KM-23.
