This specimen was part of lot 31397 in Heritage sale 3040 (Chicago, April 2015), which sold for $763.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Portuguese Colony Pair of 12 Macutas 1783. Mintage of 30,000 pieces, and few have survived. Coins grade VF and VF+." Silver coins minted for Angola in the eighteenth century include two, four, six, eight, ten and twelve macutas. None are common, especially in undamaged condition.
