Sincona sale 43, lot 3109

This specimen was lot 3109 in Sincona sale 43 (Zürich, October 2017), where it sold for 1,300 CHF (aboout US$1,551 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Algerien, Republik, seit 1962 5 Dinars 1411 H. (1991). Numidischer König Massinissa. Fast FDC. (republic of Algeria, since 1962, five dinars of AH 1411 (1991), Numidian king Massinissa (c.238 BC – 148 BC), About uncirculated.)"

The Numidian king portrayed herein resisted Roman invasion during the Punic Wars and later switched sides. As a client king of Rome, his domain comprised northern Algeria and parts of Tunisia. This NCLT is rare and was accompanied by a gold dinar (KM 120) and two dinars (KM 121).
