Künker sale 406, lot 3568

This specimen was part of lot 3568 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €4,600 (about US$6,036 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"GROSSBRITANNIEN, Elizabeth II, 1952-2022. Piedfort (Dickabschlag) zu 5 Pounds 2002. 50. Jahrestag der Thronbesteigung von Königin Elizabeth II. 73,21 g Feingold. Dazu: 5 Pounds 2002. 28,42 g. Motivteile vergoldet. Schön zu 32. GOLD. Von großer Seltenheit. Nur 100 Exemplare geprägt. 2 Stück., Polierte Platte. (Great Britain, Elizabeth II, 1952-2022, five pounds of 2002, fiftieth anniversary of the queen's coronation, gilt silver piefort and gold proof. Extremely rare, only 100 pieces struck, two pieces, proof.)"

The SCWC lists only the copper-nickel and sterling silver versions. The gilt silver and gold versions shown here are not mentioned. These were struck forAlderney, one of the Channel Islands, rather than Great Britain proper.

Recorded mintage: 15,000 in copper-nickel plus 15,000 in silver plus 100 in gold.

Specification: KM 24 (28.28 g, copper-nickel, 38.6 mm diameter) and KM 24a (0.925 fine silver).

Catalog reference: KM 24 (copper-nickel) and KM 24a (silver). The gold version is unlisted.
