Künker sale 400, lot 429

This specimen was lot 429 in Künker sale 400 (Berlin, February 2024), where it sold for €17,000 (about US$22,054 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ALBANIEN, Zogu I. 1925-1928-1939. 100 Franken 1928, R, Rom. Probe mit Riffelrand; Feingold. GOLD. Von großer Seltenheit. Nur 50 Exemplare geprägt. Vorzüglich. (kingdom of Albania, Zog I, 1928-39, hundred franga ari of 1928, Rome mint, pattern with reeded edge. Extremely rare, only fifty pieces struck, extremely fine.)"

The SCWC lists three different patterns for this denomination in 1928: KM Pr36 (head left = Fr-7), KM Pr37 (uniformed bust right = Fr-8) and KM Pr38 (head left in wreath, shown here). none were placed in circulation.
