Afghanistan AH 1304 nazarana rupee
This specimen was lot 2090 in Stephen Album sale 47 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "BARAKZAI: 'Abd al-Rahman, 1880-1901, AR nazarana rupee, Kabul, AH1304//1304, struck from dies that closely resemble the pattern strike from the Heaton mint; mount removed, as expected on a nazarana rupee, choice EF.
The reverse date is clearly AH1304, whereas the date on the Heaton strike looks more like 1303. It is not known whether this type imitated the Heaton pattern or vice versa!"
While several rupees are listed for AH 1304 (including KM 224, 544.1, 544.2 and KM 805), this nazarana rupee closely resembles KM 545, listed for AH 1303.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 9.17 g, 24 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: A-3180A, KM 545.
