Steve Album sale 54, lot 2067

This specimen was lot 2067 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $60. The catalog description[1] noted, "DURRANI: Mahmud Shah, 1801-1829, AR rupee, Derajat, AH1232, with some original luster, XF." This rupee was struck AH 1224-1234 by Mahmud Shah and AH 1236-1252 by the Sikhs. It is uncommon compared to the issues of Herat (KM 398.2) or Peshawar (KM 727.2). Wikipedia comments,

"Mahmud Shah Durrani (born Mahmud Mirza Durrani; c. 1769 – 18 April 1829) was the fourth ruler of the Durrani Empire. He reigned from 1801 to 1803 and again from 1809 to 1818. From 1818 to 1829, he ruled Herat."
