This specimen was lot 71104 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Aachen. 16 Mark, ND (ca. 1711). Free City. PCGS Genuine--Tooled, VF Details Gold Shield. A fairly difficult issue to encounter, this type is therefore desirable in all states of preservation regardless of the noted tooling as on this well handled piece." The city of Aachen on the border between Germany and the Netherlands, issued no thalers during the eighteenth century. This sixteen marck was half a gulden or one-third thaler. It is scarce. The SCWC says this was struck in 1708.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM-36.
