This specimen is the first coin issued by Cyprus after the queen's portrait was dropped from the coinage. It was accompanied by five, twenty-five, fifty and one hundred mils coins. This type was reissued in 1971-72. Cyprus, off the coast of Turkey, has been de facto partitioned between the Turkish north and the Greek center and south since the early 1970's.
Recorded mintage: 5,000,000 plus 25,000 proofs.
Specification: 0.75 g, aluminum, 18.5 mm diameter.
