This specimen is the first coin issued by Cyprus as part of the F.A.O. series and the first Cypriot coin of that denomination. Cyprus, off the coast of Turkey, has been de facto partitioned between the Turkish north and the Greek center and south since the early 1970's.

Recorded mintage: 80,000 copper-nickel business strikes plus 5,000 silver proofs.
