This specimen was lot 3366 in Goldberg sale 84 (Los Angeles, January 2015), where it sold for $376. The catalog description[1] noted, "Cyprus. ½ Sovereign, 1966. Archbishop Makarios III. One year type. NGC graded Proof 65." This unofficial issue of the Paris mint honored the archbishop. ruler of the island 1959-77. It is not mentioned in the regular SCWC but it is good gold and so readily trades. It is accompanied by a gold sovereign (KM XM4). Cyprus, off the coast of Turkey, has been de facto partitioned between the Turkish north and the Greek center and south since the early 1970's.
