Honan Province in the south east of China began coin production in 1647. A mint for struck coinage began operation in 1905.
The specimen shown was lot 21237 in Stack's Bowers April 2012 Hong Kong Auction (Sale #165), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, “Lot #21237. CHINA. Hunan. 10 Cash, ND (ca. 1902-06). PCGS AU-58. 湖南省造光緒元寶十文。.”
