Saxe-Alt-Weimar 1593 thaler Dav-9774
This specimen was lot 1025 in Jean Elsen sale 165 (Brussels, June 2026), where it sold for €320 (about US$441 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, SAXE-ALT WEIMAR, Friedrich Wilhelm et Johann (1573-1603), AR Taler, 1593 B, Saalfeld. D/ B. cuirassés des deux frères de trois quarts de f., la date à l'exergue. R/ Grand écu sous trois heaumes. Griffe au droit. Très Beau à Superbe. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Weimar, Frederick William and John, 1573-1603, thaler of 1592, Saalfeld mint. Obverse: armored busts of the two brothers three-quarters facing, date in the exergue; reverse: large triple-helmeted arms. Obverse scratch, Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"
This type of 1587-94 is one of the most common thalers of the sixteenth century.
