This type was struck in the United States for Cuba in 1953 to commemorate the centennial of José Marti, hero of Cuban independence. The type is common today. The issue was accompanied by a brass centavo (KM 30), silver 25 centavos (KM 27) and silver peso (KM 29).

Recorded mintage: 2,000,000.

Specification: 12.5 g, .900 fine silver, .361 troy oz AGW, 31 mm diameter, designed by Esteban Valdarrama.
