Iran AH 1281 2 toman KM-864
This specimen was lot 4102 in Sincona sale 67 (Zurich, October 2020), where it sold for 1,500 CHF (about US$1,975 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"IRAN | Qajar Dynasty | Nâsir al-dîn Shâh, 1264-1313 H./1848-1896 AD, Manually produced gold coinage. 2 Tomân 1281 H., Mashhad (Mashhad-i Imâm ar-Ridâ). Tughra with name and title in wreath, rev. mint and date in wreath. Uncirculated."
The SCWC lists double tomans from three mints, including Kirmanshahan (KM-859), Mashhad (shown here) and Tabriz. All are rare. When milled coinage was introduced, the weight of the double toman was reduced to 5.75 g.
