Ladakh VS1924 paisa
This specimen was lot 2260 in Stephen Album sale 27 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2017), where it sold for $305.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "LADAKH: AE paisa, Ladakh, VS1924. Struck under Doghra rule, very rare in this quality, EF, ex Paul Stevens Collection." The SCWC lists this type for VS 1923-1931 and does not offer pricing above Very Fine. The Dogras were interlopers from the Sikh empire to the south. The princely state of Jammu and Kashmir was created after the First Anglo-Sikh War, when the East India Company, which had annexed the Kashmir Valley from the Sikhs, then sold it in 1846 to the Raja of Jammu, Gulab Singh.
