Lucca 1749 scudo Dav-1373
This specimen was lot 979 in UBS sale 85 (Zürich, September 2010), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIEN, Lucca, Scudo 1749. Wappen auf gekrönter, verzierter Wappenkartusche über Zweigen. Rv. Der hl. Martin reitet nach links und teilt seinen Mantel mit einem Bettler. Sehr schön." (Italy, Lucca, scudo of 1749. Crowned arms, date below. Reverse: Saint Martin divides his cloak with a beggar.)
This type was struck 1735-50 with similar types struck until 1756. The wear pattern on this specimen suggests it spent a long period as a pocket piece, a common fate for coins with religious designs.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
