Steve Album Auction 52, part of lot 2476

This specimen was part of lot 2476 in Steve Album Auction 52 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2025), which did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA: Republic, 2-coin proof set, 2014(k), struck at the Kolkata Mint, commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of the Singer Begum Akhtar (1914-1974), including 100 (silver) and 5 rupees, sealed in original booklet with paper sleeve; set of 2 coins." This set also included a five rupees (KM 445). Wikipedia notes, "Akhtari Bai Faizabadi (1914-74), also known as Begum Akhtar, was an Indian singer and actress....she is regarded as one of the greatest singers of ghazal, dadra, and thumri genres of Hindustani classical music." As of July 2025, 100 rupees = US$1.166.
