Künker sale 336, lot 6451

This specimen was lot 6451 in Künker sale 336 (Osnabruck, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €700 (about US$916 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DIE ÖSTERREICHISCHEN STANDESHERREN, TRAUTSON, GRAFEN, Johann Franz, 1621-1663. 1/4 Dukat 1635, Wien. GOLD. RR Unregelmäßiger Schrötling, sehr schön. Aus der Sammlung Dr. Karl Walter Bach, München. Exemplar der Slg. Hohenkubin, Auktion Lanz 7, Graz 1976, Nr. 525 und der Auktion Lanz 147, München 2009, Nr. 674. (Austrian states, counts of Trautson, John Francis, 1621-63, quarter ducat of 1635, Vienna mint. Rare, irregular edge, very fine.)"

The counts of Trautson issued a considerable quantity of silver and gold coinage in the seventeenth century, most of it now rare. This is probably the most affordable gold coin.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.875 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 0.87 g.
