This silver 320 réis was minted at the Rio mint 1824-30. This coin would have traded for one-third of a Spanish American peso. The 1825-R occasionally turnes up but the other dates are all rare. The specimen was lot 20532 in Heritage sale 3009 (Chicago, April 2010), where it sold for $13,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "Pedro I 320 Reis 1824R, F/VF, restruck on 'J' series 300 Reis. An exceedingly rare issue with a tiny mint of 642. There is likely less than a dozen in existence. Krause simply calls it 'Rare'."

Recorded mintage: 642.

Specification: 8.96 g, .917 fine silver, .264 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM 374, Russo 495.
