This specimen was lot 22178 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $123. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Mansfeld-Friedeburg. Taler, (15)72. NGC VF Details--Polished. Joint coinage I, Peter Ernst I, Christoph II, Johan Hoyer III." Mansfeld and its subdivisions were counties of utmost insignificance except for its silver mines which provided the material for an abundance of thalers. This one was minted 1572-73.
