Kurpfalz, or the Electoral Palatinate, in 1547, from Putzger's 1905 atlas

This specimen was lot 700 in Stack's "Vermuele, Ward & Mexico Maxico" sale (New York, January 2010), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMAN STATES. PFALZ (PALATINATE). Karl Ludwig, 1648-1680. Ducat, 1662. Elegant armored bust r. within titles Count Palatine of the Rhine, High Treasurer of the Empire, Prince Elector and Duke of Bavaria. Rv. Helmet and mantling over three shields, DOMINVS PROVIDEBIT, The Lord Will Provide. Much lustre, a glass finds hints of cleaning and a surface scuff in right obverse field. About Uncirculated." This type was struck 1659, 1662 and 1673; a similar type with a portrait of Elector Carl (r. 1680-85) was issued 1682-86; all are rare.
