Pfalz 1662 ducat Fr-2001
The first specimen was lot 700 in Stack's "Vermuele, Ward & Mexico Maxico" sale (New York, January 2010), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMAN STATES. PFALZ (PALATINATE). Karl Ludwig, 1648-1680. Ducat, 1662. Elegant armored bust r. within titles Count Palatine of the Rhine, High Treasurer of the Empire, Prince Elector and Duke of Bavaria. Rv. Helmet and mantling over three shields, DOMINVS PROVIDEBIT, The Lord Will Provide. Much lustre, a glass finds hints of cleaning and a surface scuff in right obverse field. About Uncirculated." The second specimen was lot 2505 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[2] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Pfalz, Karl Ludwig, 1648-1680. Dukat 1662/59, Heidelberg. Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1659 geändert. Selten. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, electorate of the Palatinate, Charles Louis, 1648-80, ducat of 1662, Heidelberg mint, 1662/59 overdate. Rare, Very Fine-Extremely Fine.)"
This type was struck 1659, 1662 and 1673; a similar type with a portrait of Elector Carl (r. 1680-85) was issued 1682-86; all are rare.
