Straits Settlements 1920 dollar

Steve Album sale 27, lot 1131

from the Mountain Groan Collection

The first specimen was lot 1131 in Stephen Album sale 27 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted, "STRAITS SETTLEMENTS: George V, 1910-1936, AR dollar, 1920. Lightly cleaned, Unc." This type was struck for the Straits Settlements (now Malaysia and Singapore) in 1919-20 with a few rare proofs struck 1925-26. The Straits Settlements dollar, originally 26.95 g, 0.900 fine silver in 1903-04, dropped to 20.21 g, 0.900 fine for 1907-09 and to this specification for this issue. Despite the massive mintage, it is not common.

Recorded mintage: 8,164,000.

Specification: 16.85 g, 0.500 fine silver, 34.1 mm diameter.
