Sincona sale 57, lot 2836

The first specimen was lot 2424 in Sincona sale 23 (Zürich, May 2015), where it sold for 775 CHF (about US$974 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha, Herzogtum, Alfred, 1893-1900 2 Mark 1895. Berlin Vorzüglich-FDC. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, Alfred, 1893-1900, two mark of 1895, Berlin mint, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

The second specimen was lot 3362 in Sincona sale 51 (Zürich, October 2018), where it sold for 550 CHF (about US$664 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, Alfred, 1893-1900. 2 Mark 1895 A, Berlin. Gutes sehr schön. Hübsche Patina. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, Alfred, 1893-1900, two mark of 1895, Berlin mint. Good very fine, Attractive patina.)"

The third specimen was lot 2836 in Sincona sale 57 (Zürich, May 2019), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$595 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[3] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND | Empire | Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, Alfred, 1893-1900. 2 Mark 1895 A, Berlin. Vorzüglich. Leicht berieben. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, Alfred, 1893-1900, two mark of 1895, Berlin mint. Extremely fine, Slightly polished.)"

This type is very scarce. It is accompanied by a rare five mark (KM 160) and twenty mark (KM 163).

Recorded mintage: 15,000 plus a few proofs.

Specification: 11.11 g, 0.900 fine silver, 38 mm diameter, the first specimen 11.12 g, the second specimen 11.06 g, the third specimen 11.10 g.
