Sincona sale 6, lot 1537

This specimen was lot 1537 in Sincona sale 6 (Zürich, May 2012), where it sold for 4500 CHF (about US$5,537 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALIEN Piacenza Odoardo Farnese, 1622-1646. Scudo 1626, Piacenza. Geharnischte Büste mit Halskrause rechts. Rv. Hl. Antonius zu Pferd nach rechts mit Fahne in der Rechten. Selten. Vorzüglich. (Italy, duchy of Piacenza, Edward Farnese, 1622-46, scudo of 1626, Piacenza mint. Obverse: armored, ruffed bust to right; reverse: St. Anthony rides to right, banner in hand. Rare, extremely fine.)"

This rare, magnificent scudo well earned its realized price. The duchy of Piacenza was united with the duchy of Parma in the eighteenth century.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver; this specimen is 31,89 g.

Catalog reference: CNI 11. Ravegnani Morosini 19, Dav-4127.
