Sincona sale 43, lot 2118

This specimen was lot 2118 in Sincona sale 43 (Zürich, October 2017), where it sold for 350 CHF (about US$418 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Jülich-Kleve-Berg, Herzogtum, Wilhelm V. 1539-1592 Taler o. J. Mühlheim. Sehr schön. Kratzer. NGC XF40. (Germany, duchy of Julich-Cleve-Berg, William V, 1539-92, undated thaler, Mühlheim mint. Very fine, Scratches.)"

Altho not dated, Davenport notes that this type was struck in 1543. In addition to being duke of Julich, Cleve and Berg, William was also count of Mark and Ravensberg. His sister, Anne, was briefly the fourth wife of Henry VIII of England.
