Sincona sale 46, lot 461

The modern nation of Greece obtained independence from Ottoman Turkey in 1833. It functioned as a monarchy from that year until 1925 and again 1935-74. Since 1974, the country is the Hellenic Republic of Greece. This 2500 drachmai was issued to honor the Pan-European Games. It was accompanied by a five thousand drachmai (KM 129). This specimen was lot 461 in Sincona sale 46 (Zürich, May 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Griechenland, Republik, seit 1974. 2500 Drachmen 1981. XIII. Leichtathletik-Europameisterschaften. Agon. Polierte Platte. FDC. (republic of Greece, 1981 2500 drachmai, 13th European Games. Choice Proof.)"

Recorded mintage: 75,000.

Specification: 6.45 g, 0.900 fine gold, this specimen 6.42 g.
