This specimen was lot 319 in Sincona sale 75 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 17,000 CHF (about US$20,635 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Grossbritannien | Königreich. George IV. 1820-1830. Proof 2 Pounds 1824, London. Bare head. Plain edge. Äusserst selten. NGC PROOF AU Details. Vorderseite bearbeitet. (Extremely rare, Obverse tooled.)" The reform of 1817 terminated all guinea-denominated issues in favor of the sovereign. Large size gold issues resumed for the first time since the 1750's, but the two and five pound pieces were minted mostly for presentation. This date is listed only as a pattern.
