Hohenlohe in 1648, from Droysen's atlas

This specimen was part of lot 1308 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), which sold for 80 CHF (about US$116 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Hohenlohe-Neuenstein-Öhringen, Grafschaft, Ludwig Friedrich Karl, 1765-1805. 2 1/2 Konventionskreuzer 1774, Nürnberg. Dazu: 1 Konventionskreuzer 1774, Nürnberg. Münzmeister Georg Nikolas Riedner. Wardein Sigmund Scholz. Lot von 2 Stück. Albrecht 170, 171. Vorzüglich. Winzige Kratzer (1x). (2) (Germany, county of Hohenlohe-Neuenstein-Öhringen, Louis Frederick Charles, 1765-1805, 2½ kreuzer of 1774, Nuremberg mint, with a kreuzer of 1774, Nuremberg mint. Two pieces, Extremely Fine, Tiny scratches on one piece.)"

The county of Hohenlohe, small to begin with, further fragmented in the seventeenth century to form Hohenlohe-Langenburg, Hohenlohe-Neuenstein-Neuenstein and Hohenlohe-Neuenstein-Öhringen. During the Napoleonic mediatization, the county was partitioned between Bavaria and Wurttemberg. This is the only kreuzer struck in this state in the eighteenth century.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specifications: billon.

Catalog reference: KM 54, Albrecht 171.
